It’s clear, if there are no discomforts while pedaling, the ride is much more enjoyable. You’ll become fitter and reach your goals faster. Whether it’s a longer ride on the weekend, the commute to work or a brisk ride around town – it’s much easier without saddle discomfort. That’s exactly why we developed the Ergon SF Men.
The SF Men is perfect for a sporty and comfortable position on today’s fitness bikes. The shape of the high-quality padded saddle supports the slightly inclined position of your upper body. This means that the pressure is optimally directed to the sit bones and sensitive soft tissues are relieved. In addition, with the SF Men’s aesthetic design, you visually enhance your bike with the eye-catching saddle design.
The very deep relief channel, which tapers to the rear, opens out into a hole. This design combines all the advantages of a cut-out saddle without its disadvantages (very stiff saddle shell) and optimally relieves the sensitive soft tissue regions. Too much pressure in this area often leads to discomfort and numbness.
The padding is made of orthopedic foam, which we have tuned to be ergonomic and extremely durable. Orthopedic foam distributes the pressure much better – so that you feel comfortable at all times, even without traditional padded cycling shorts. The saddle is covered with robust microfiber.
The Ergon development team has done intensive research on men’s health. The main cause of discomfort for men when cycling is the saddle. High pressure on the extremely sensitive perineal area leads to feelings of numbness, among other things. The testicles and penis, on the other hand, rarely cause discomfort because they can avoid the pressure of the seat. The SF Men relieves the male perineum: with MRI and CT analyses, many prototypes and test riders, we have ergonomically adapted the saddle to the anatomy and needs of male cyclists.
The male pelvis is less flexible than that of women. This means that men sit more upright on the saddle and put more strain on the sit bones. Therefore, the transition area between the rear of the saddle and the nose of the saddle can be kept narrow (Y-shape). This gives the legs more free space for pedaling.
In contrast to the female anatomy, men’s pubic tuberosities are much steeper and the pubic symphysis is much higher. We have also taken this significant difference between men and women into account in the development of the saddle.
The shape and size of a saddle must fit the rider’s sit-bone width to avoid discomfort. That’s why Ergon offers the SF Men in two sizes. Since the pelvic bones taper forward in a v-shape, the saddle should always provide sufficient support surface for the sit bones in different sitting positions. The saddle widths are selected so that the usable area corresponds in each case to the sit bone distance and distributes the pressure optimally. The more forward a rider sits, the further forward the sit bones touch the saddle.
