Ergon's ergonomics specialists have completely reworked women's saddles from scratch and to the smallest detail. Utilizing X-ray and CT scans as well as cutting edge technology – we’ve created a new generation of women’s ergonomic saddles for MTB – as well as for gravel and road. Countless prototypes have been produced, and hundreds of hours of testing by professional and amateur riders have gone into the development of this saddle – so you can enjoy a beyond better ride.
Since women have a significantly more flexible pelvis than men and can tilt further forward, a saddle for women riders must provide targeted relief so no pressure is exerted on the sensitive genital area in an mountain bike riding position. The SMS Women prevents pressure and pain thanks to the relief opening at the front and the Y-shape of the saddle flanks, which direct pressure to the sit bone area of the saddle’s surface.
Saddles that are not ergonomically designed specifically for a women’s anatomy can produce uncomfortable pressure and pain in the genital area. The SMS Sport Gel Women is specially designed to protect this sensitive area: the forward positioned relief opening prevents discomfort, numbness and pain by effectively transferring pressure to the supportive sit bones.
The pelvic bones converge into a Y-shape towards the front, so an ergonomic saddle must be able to support the sit bones comfortably in different riding positions. If the saddle is too narrow or too wide for your sit bone width, it can cause discomfort. To prevent this, Ergon offers the SMS Women in two sizes for a better personalized fit and a comfortable ride.
The compact length and Y-shaped ergonomic design of the SMS Women saddle provide more space outside the saddle flanks and reduces the risk of snagging your shorts on the saddle nose during steep climbs. Annoying leg contact with the saddle is effectively reduced for improved mobility and control of your mountain bike on steep or technical terrain. Additionally, it prevents nerves aside the saddle from receiving too much pressure, which may cause cold or numb feet.
The deep relief channel, specially designed for a women’s anatomy, directs pressure away from the sensitive genital area to the supporting sit bones and reliably prevents pressure, pain and numbness, even on rough terrain with big impacts. The slightly curved seat surface distributes the pressure more evenly in coordination with the enlarged relief channel. This allows you to ride longer with more comfort.
If you ride in cold, wet and muddy conditions – your SMS Women saddle comes with a protective insert for your most sensitive area. Weighing just seven grams, Ergon’s weather protection insert can be easily clicked into the ergonomic relief channel of the SMS Women, providing effective protection against cold wind, water and mud splashes without affecting the comfortable ergonomic features of the saddle.
The TiNox XP rails used in the SMS Women offer an excellent balance of weight reduction for improved performance and durability – even with big impacts rough terrain. This means your saddle delivers the support you need even when the going gets tough.
The biomechanical reference line (BMR line) is marked on the SMS Women for convenience when installing or adjusting the saddle position. The BMR line is the point at which the saddle is exactly 75 Millimeters wide. Once a rider has found the optimal seating position or during a bike fitting process, the BMR line becomes an important reference for the precise adjustment of saddle height, setback and angle. Our Fitting Box Road/Gravel also uses the BMR line as an important reference point.
The best workmanship and materials, shorter supply chain and low-waste production with an effective recycling path – these are the advantages of a saddle made in Europe. Better for you and the environment!
